China makes headway in ICH protection

Based on the remarks by Wang Wenzhang, Vice Minister of Culture on June 2, 22 items of China were inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity and 3 items were on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. China’s items on the representative list were the most in the world.

This May, supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Asian-Pacific ICH International Training Center was set up in China Art Academy, indicating that the world fully affirmed the ICH protection in China. According to Wang Wenzhang, China’s ICH protection has shifted from monomial and selective item protection to overall and systematic protection.
