Labels for Chinese name-brand products not used after expiration

Based on the Notice on the Use of Labels for Chinese Name Brand Products after Expiration recently issued by General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine , the Chinese name-brand products appraised before the year 2007 will expire no later than September 2012. By then, enterprises will have no right to continue using the labels of Chinese name-brand products.

It is learnt that till the year 2007, Shenzhen obtained 58 Chinese name-brand products and was the one with the most Chinese name brands among the big and medium-sized cities in the nation. Shenzhen's 29 Chinese name-brand products from 27 businesses entitled in 2005 will expire till this September. In 2007, 22 products in Shenzhen won the title of Chinese Name Brand Products, which probably became the last batch of Chinese Name Brand Products in Shenzhen city.

According to an insider surnamed Li, if the products have high familiarity among consumers, they can become best sellers even if they have no title of Chinese name-brand products. On the contrary, if the products have existing or potential problems, it does not help even if they have the reputation of Chinese name-brand products. [Chinese version is available on SIPO.gov.cn]
