Hubei: work on GI protection more pertinent |

In 2009, there were 8 products in Hubei approved by General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine to implement geographic indication (GI) protection, ranking the first in China. Hubei is a province of agriculture. By 2008, Hubei has 30 products approved to implement GI protection, including Jingshan Qiaomi and Lichuan yellow lotus. According to general investigation, Hubei has over 300 GI products protected in 2009 and becomes one of the provinces with most rich GI resources. In order to protect the characteristic resources of the local, Hubei Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) brought forward a brand new working method for the GI protection. According to the working method, there are four key points highlighted by Hubei AQSIQ: firstly, to find a cut-in point for GI work. Hubei AQSIQ definitely pointed out that the GI protection work is the significant cut-in for AQSIQ to serve local economy, especially the rural economic development; secondly, to form a GI protection mechanism and set up a special organ to administrate issues relating to the protection of GI products; thirdly, to facilitate the standardization; fourthly, to cultivate leading enterprises in brand creation and push GI products into the market. |
