Xinjiang：Urumqi's patent applications exceed 1,000 |

During the implementation of the strategies of "promoting the city by relying on science and education" and " invigorating the city by relying on talents ", Urumqi puts emphasis on improving S&T development level and innovation capability in all fields of economic society. Urumqi's patent applications exceeded 1,000 pieces from January to November 2009, and hit the historically high level. It is learnt from Urumqi Municipal Science and Technology Bureau on January 14 that, Urumqi applied 1,065 pieces of patents from January to November 2009, of which invention patents are 283 pieces, utility models patents are 652 pieces, design patents are 130 pieces; the amount of patent authorizations is 631 pieces, of which inventions are 66, utility models are 380, design patents are185, and patent applications and authorizations accounting for 43.4% and 40.9% in the whole province respectively, increased by 21.3% and 16.2% compared with the same period last year. The city's total amount of patent applications has already exceeded 10,000 pieces. In 2009, 56 scientific and technological achievements of Urumqi gained awards of autonomous region, and 27 scientific and technological achievements obtained municipal awards. |
