Hubei: patent applications rise

According to the statistics released by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), in 2009 Hubei filed 27,206 pieces of patent applications, up 28.65% compared with the same period of the previous year, higher than the national average growth rate 6.28%, ranking eighth in the nation.

To be specified, last year, invention, utility model and design patent applications were 6,065 pieces, 10,579 pieces and 10,562 pieces, rising by 31.39%, 20.31% and 36.5%, respectively; service applications were 17,195 pieces, up 43.92%, 13,999 pieces of the service applications were from enterprises, increasing by 59.55%, accounting for 81.41% of all the service applications.

3,594 design patent applications were authorized, increasing by 141.21%; 5,872 patent applications from enterprises were granted, increasing by 93.67%, taking up 77.52% of the service applications.
