Guangdong: More infringements scoped |
The Industrial and Commercial Bureau of Guangzhou, capital of the province, investigated 1,856 trademark infringements in 2009, a 5 percent increase over a year previous, on goods valued at more than 26 million yuan. About 91 percent of infringement cases involved foreign trademarks. Of those, 476 were on French brands, 374 targeted US trademarks and 227 related to Japanese trademarks. Leather goods, auto parts and garments were the three sectors that suffered most from illegal sales. Statistics show 735 infringements on leather goods were investigated, topping all sectors with nearly 40 percent of the total. Garments and auto parts drew 26 percent and 6 percent of total infringement investigations respectively. A special provision for intellectual property protection will now be added to the standard lease contract of market stands in the city, according to the Trademark Management Office at the Industrial and Commercial Bureau. A first-time trademark infringement offense will result in suspension of the vendor's business. A second infringement will permit market managers to terminate the contract and lease the stall to another vendor. |
