Feb. 11--In North China, Weixian County in Hebei province has been known for the paper cutting expertise of its folk artists. Now some of the best examples of the tradition are on display in Beijing.

Paper cutting of Weixian County in Hebei The show opened at the ground floor of the National Center of Performing Arts. Set to last 40 days, it features the most characteristic of the paper cutting style of North China.
A team of farmer folk artists demonstrate their talent and skill. Weixian paper cuts go back 500 years.
The designs are mostly borrowed from the stage of folk operas.
In 2009, the craft was included on the UNESCO World Intangible Heritage List.
