On April 14, the Seminar on European Patent System co-hosted by State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and European Patent Office (EPO) and undertaken by Shanghai IP Office was held in Shanghai. The seminar aimed at further strengthening the IP communication and cooperation between China and Europe, promoting domestic sectors especially enterprises to understand and make the best of European patent system, and assisting Chinese enterprises and IPR holders to gain more effective IP protection in Europe. Deputy Director of SIPO He Hua, Deputy Director of EPO Wim van der Eijk and Director of Shanghai Municipal Intellectual Property Office Lv Guoqiang attended the meeting and made speeches.
He Hua indicated at his speech that, Europe is the important platform for Chinese enterprises to operate globally, a series of Sino-Europe trade and investment activities can't be separated from the effective of patent system, gaining patent protection in Europe is a essential element of Chinese enterprises to join in European economic activities, and there is a great room for the increase of patent applications of Chinese enterprises in Europe. He expressed China and Europe will closely cooperate to provide more consultation and guide to make enterprises be familiar with related rules and effectively use European patent system.
Director Lv Guoqiang stressed the important significance of effectively utilizing patent system and patent resources toward the promotion of innovation and creation and the supporting role of IP work in the transfer of Shanghai's economic mode, and introduced the increase of various patent applications of Shanghai 2009.
