Chongqing: Network copyright disputes soar

On April 21, Chongqing Municipal Higher People's Court released at its press conference that, last year, Chongqing's courts newly received 303 copyright cases, almost half of the IPR cases.

In recent years, network copyright disputes heard by Chongqing's courts are mounting up. According to related principal of Chongqing Municipal Higher People's Court, with the popularization of network, abundant infringement disputes grow like the unauthorized download of movie works at Internet bars and online play illegally provided by websites. Based on statistics, in 2008, Chongqing's courts merely received 27 network copyright cases, taking up 5.4% of IPR cases that year; while in 2009, such kind of cases rushed up to 94 pieces, 20.66% of the IPR cases last year.
