Xinjiang: Kelamayi has 8 ICH items |

On November 2, the supervision group from the Autonomous Regional Cultural Bureau came to Kelamayi to inspect projects of intangible culture heritage (ICH) there; it expressed hopes for the ICH declaration and also suggested the city to explore some typical and well-recognized projects. By the end of 2008, Kelamayi has affirmed 83 items of ICH, covering 9 kinds, and the city formally filed the application of ICH projects for protection at provincial level this year. In August, root carving, iron craft, paper-cut and other 5 items were included in the first batch of municipal ICH protection list, and the most characteristic root carving, paper-cut and puppet show have been applied for provincial protection. At present, the city has formed a committee on kirigami to compile teaching materials on paper-cut for pupils and also include this kind of craft into the primary school textbooks. There are also detailed plans to protect the eight specified items. |
